It’s a busy time for sports fans with the Women’s World Cup Cricket, World Para-Athletics Championships and the UEFA Women’s Euro football about to kick-off. Elsewhere there was success for sailors, Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre, canoeist, Rachel Cawthorn and BMX rider, Blaine Ridge-Davis.

World Para-Athletics Championships: GB win multiple medals on first weekend
Hannah Cockroft, 24, a triple gold medallist at Rio 2016, broke her own all-time mark in the T34 100m by finishing in 17.18 seconds. Fellow Briton Kare Adenegan claimed silver, with GB’s Carly Tait fifth.

Gemma Prescott won bronze in the F32 club throw – matching her achievement at London 2012. Sammi Kinghorn and Sophie Hahn completed the T53 and T38 200m respectively in world-record time, with fellow Briton Kadeena Cox taking bronze behind Hahn.

Double Paralympic silver medallist Stef Reid jumped 5.40m for her first global title and there was a bronze medal for Scotland’s Maria Lyle in the T35 200m.

Cricket: Captain Heather Knight stars as England women defeat West Indies
A professional 92-run win against West Indies meant England finished top of the group stages of the World Cup to secure a semi-final against South Africa in Bristol on Tuesday. The other semi, at Derby on Thursday, sees second-placed Australia face India, who thrashed New Zealand by 186 runs. Full story via the Guardian

Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre sailed to World Championship silver to get their first year of partnership off to a fine start. Full story via TeamGB

Football: Women’s Euro 2017 – Netherlands win opening game
Hosts Netherlands got their Women’s Euro 2017 campaign off to a successful start with a deserved win over Norway. Liverpool’s Shanice van de Sanden scored the only goal, heading in Lieke Martens’ pin-point cross from close range after 66 minutes. Full story via the BBC

Hockey: Hinch delight at resilient England after Ireland scare
Maddie Hinch hailed England’s resilience as they staved off an Ireland comeback to win 3-2 in the Hockey World League. Full story via TeamGB

Canoeing: Cawthorn powers to bronze in European canoe sprint champs
Rio Olympian Rachel Cawthorn won Great Britain’s first medal of the European canoe sprint championships with bronze in the K1 1000m, much to her delight. Full story via TeamGB

Cycling: Blaine Ridge-Davis wins European junior women’s BMX Championships
Blaine Ridge-Davis was crowned European junior women’s BMX champion in Bordeaux, France on Saturday. The 18-year-old led from the start and held off a late surge from Latvia’s Vineta Petersone to become the first Briton to win the junior women’s title at the European championships since Shanaze Reade in 2006.
